A Few Tips For Those Who Are Separated or Divorced During This Difficult Time

Co-Parenting During COVID-19
Raising children after a separation or divorce is never easy. It is even more difficult to navigate these waters during the current COVID-19 epidemic. Whether it be making sure your child is completely protected at each household, finding a safe way to meet up with your former spouse or anything in between, the easiest of co-parenting tasks have become much more difficult. If you are co-parenting during this time, we have listed a few tips to make things easier on everyone.

Be More Understanding

This crisis has been difficult on everyone, whether we’d like to admit it or not. Even if you are not on the best of terms with your former spouse, understand that they are going through the same struggle as you and try to be considerate of the stress they may be under. Being respectful and avoiding arguments can make the entire situation easier for everyone, including your child. Who knows, this situation may even foster a stronger relationship with your former spouse if handled properly.

Have Proper Communication

Another thing to consider during the COVID-19 epidemic is having proper communication with your co-parent. If you have struggled with this in the past, we suggest finding a way to communicate that works well for the both of you. Knowing that your child is safe during these uncertain times is the most important thing. Checking their medical and emotional health on a daily basis and relaying that information to your co-parent is a good way to accomplish good communication.

Be Flexible

As we all know, new information about this crisis comes rolling in each day. Be prepared for change and have a plan in place with your co-parent if your child’s school schedule change, if there is a doctor’s appointments or anything in between. Always keep your child’s best interest in mind and be prepared for whatever this epidemic may throw your way.
